Big Changes Are Coming! 🚀
Hey there, trainers!
We've got some important updates to share with you about how we calculate Pokémon card values on Poke Card Values...
Starting early/mid February, the eBay data we've been using for card prices will no longer be available due to a permanent change to their API.
But don't worry - we're making sure you'll still get accurate and reliable pricing info by switching to TCG Player for our data!
Here's what this means for you:
The Good Stuff
- ✅ The Market Price - We'll be using TCG Player's Market Price as the main Nr Mint/Mint (NM/M) price point. It reflects the true value of a Pokemon card based on recent sales data calculated from thousands of real transactions across TCG Player's platform, removing outliers to give a reliable and up-to-date estimate. This ensures a more accurate representation of what your cards are really worth.
- ✅ Daily updates - Instead of refreshing prices every fortnight, we'll update them every single day!
- ✅ More accuracy - Prices will now come straight from TCG Player's database, so no more inflated values caused by unrelated cards sneaking into eBay results.
- ✅ Better data - TCG Player makes way more card data available than eBay's restrictive approach, giving us a more wider view of the market.
- ✅ Extra price insights - You'll now see low, mid and high listing prices from TCG Player as well, giving you a clearer picture of the card's value range and helping you make more informed decisions about buying or selling.
The Trade-Offs
- ⚠️ TCG Player prices are based on the US market, which means there might be some differences compared to UK trends, where eBay is more prominent. To ensure the values are as accurate as possible for UK collectors, we'll convert the prices from USD to GBP using the current exchange rate at the time of collection.
- ⚠️ We won't be able to get price data for PSA-graded cards anymore. Current data will remain viewable as “legacy data”, but they won't be updated going forward. With so many grading companies now in the market, prices can vary significantly depending on the company and grade. To give you the most accurate value for your graded cards, we recommend using the eBay 'Sold' button on the card details page, to check the latest prices manually.
What's Staying the Same
- Prices for other card conditions (Very Good, Played and Heavily Played) will still be calculated as percentages of the NM/M value, just using TCG Player's market value instead of eBay's.
- You can still manually check eBay prices for cards by clicking the 'For Sale' and 'Sold' links.
Looking Ahead
We're always working to make Poke Card Values better. We already also pull data from Magic Madhouse and plan to add Cardmarket soon to give you even more pricing options.
We know many of you have spent time managing your collections on the site, and we're doing everything we can to make this transition as smooth as possible. If you've got any questions or ideas, feel free to reach out at [email protected] - we'd love to hear from you!
Thanks for being part of the Poke Card Values community. We're excited for what's next and can't wait to keep helping you stay on top of your collection.
Happy collecting!
